CineClub MX: Mama
As a Mexican Tzotzil, Xun Sero grew up between the sacrality of both Guadalupe Virgin and Mother Earth. As a son, he grew up among the derision of not having a father and blaming his mother for it. Through intimate conversations between Sero and his mother, layers of reverence, pain, and silence surrounding the mother figure are uncovered.
MAMÁ (MOM) challenges the cultural silence around family violence, delving into the sacred yet burdened role of motherhood in Indigenous and Mexican contexts. It questions inherited behaviors and the myths that shape gender and power. By confronting his own complicity, the filmmaker offers a moving reflection on accountability, transformation, and the human need to see beyond social roles into the person beneath. This act of vulnerability becomes a powerful call for wider conversations around masculinity, healing, and relational truth.DocumentaryPT2HNR2025-06-19A film by Xun Sero
